What a sewage pump does
Moving wastewater with solids
A sewage pump lifts or transfers wastewater that carries solids, fibers and grit, for example from a sump, lift station, septic or effluent tank, or building drain. It is built with a wide flow passage and a robust impeller so the solids do not block it.
Sewage, effluent and drainage are different duties
Clean drainage and effluent with little solids need a smaller passage than raw sewage. State what the pump will actually see. Septic effluent and grey water are covered on the effluent pump page. For plain water transfer see the transfer pump line.
Submersible vs non-submersible sewage pump
Submersible
The pump and sealed motor sit under the liquid in the sump. It is quiet, self-priming by design because it is flooded, and needs no separate suction pipe. The motor seal and cable entry are the parts to check; seals, guide rails and duplex sets are covered on the submersible sewage pump page.
Non-submersible (dry-pit or close-coupled)
The pump sits outside the liquid with a suction pipe. The motor is easier to reach for service, but the pump needs priming or a flooded suction and a dry, ventilated place to sit.
Self-priming for pits and sites
A self-priming pump can lift from a pit without being flooded, within its suction-lift limit. It suits temporary and on-site duty; muddy site water is covered on the trash pump page. Our self-priming transfer SKU lists solids handling and priming quoted by duty.
Positive displacement options
For thick sludge or abrasive slurry, an air-operated diaphragm pump or a progressive cavity pump can be a better match than a centrifugal impeller. Both are covered on their own pages.
Solids passage and impeller type: vortex, grinder, non-clog
Free passage size
This is the largest sphere that can pass through the pump. The pump will clog on anything bigger. Pick a passage size from the solids in your fluid, not from the pipe diameter.
Non-clog (channel) impeller
Wide channels let solids and some fibers pass through whole. A common general-purpose choice for sewage and effluent.
Vortex impeller
The impeller is recessed so most of the flow swirls past it and solids do not strike the vanes. It is good for stringy or fibrous material and large solids. It is generally less efficient than a channel impeller.
Grinder (cutter)
A cutter reduces solids to small pieces so they can go through small-bore pressure piping. It suits pressure sewage systems. It does not suit hard debris, and the cutter wears. See the grinder pump page.
Head, flow, float control and materials
Head and flow
Head is the static lift plus friction loss in the discharge pipe. State flow in m³/h or GPM at that head. A sewage pump should not run far off the best-efficiency point, or it will wear faster.
Float switch and control
A float switch starts the pump when the level rises and stops it when the level falls. Many sumps use two pumps with alternation and a high-level alarm. Say whether you need a single or a duplex setup.
Materials
Cast iron is common for sewage; stainless steel is used where the fluid is more corrosive. Seals and elastomers should suit the fluid. Confirm materials on the RFQ against the actual effluent.
Motor, cable and supply
Voltage, phase and frequency, motor protection, and cable length to the control panel. For a submersible, give the sump depth so the cable reaches.
Sewage pump selection checklist
Send these fields on the inquiry form. The pump spec guide has the general RFQ brief.
Fluid and solids
Raw sewage, effluent or drainage; largest solid and any fibers or grit.
Flow and head
Required flow and total head, including pipe length and static lift.
Pump arrangement
Submersible or non-submersible, single or duplex, sump or tank size.
Impeller type
Non-clog, vortex or grinder, from the solids you expect.
Control and supply
Float, level control and alarm; voltage, phase, frequency and cable length.
Branding and packaging
Private label, carton or crate lots and quantity.
Catalog SKUs closest to sewage and solids duty
These are existing catalog pumps, shown with studio reference images. None is a dedicated grinder or vortex sewage pump; flow, head, solids passage and options are quoted to your duty sheet.
What the catalog covers
The catalog lists a submersible drainage pump described for pits and light sewage, a self-priming pump for dirty water, an air-operated diaphragm pump, and a progressive cavity pump for viscous and sludge duty. It does not list a dedicated grinder or vortex sewage pump, so heavier sewage duty is quoted to the duty sheet. For water on a pool cover see the cover pump page.
Two ways to buy
OEM and private label
Building a sewage or wastewater pump range under your own brand? Start from a duty sheet. See Custom OEM for options and the private-label hub for housing, label and packaging.
Wholesale supply
Buying in crate lots for distribution or installation? The wholesale hub covers lots and spares. MOQ is quoted by SKU, not as a site-wide number.
Sewage pump FAQ
Do you sell sewage pumps to consumers?
No. This is OEM and wholesale supply for brands, distributors and contractors. There is no cart and no public price. Send a duty sheet on the inquiry form.
What does free passage size mean?
It is the diameter of the largest solid sphere that can pass through the pump. Anything larger will block it, so size it from the solids in your fluid.
Vortex, grinder or non-clog impeller?
Non-clog impellers are a common general choice. Vortex impellers suit stringy or large solids and have lower efficiency. Grinders cut solids for small-bore pressure piping but are not for hard debris.
Submersible or non-submersible?
Submersible pumps sit in the sump, are quiet and flooded. Non-submersible pumps are easier to service but need priming or flooded suction and a dry location.
Which catalog pumps handle solids?
The submersible drainage and self-priming pumps are on the transfer line, the air-operated diaphragm pump is on the chemical line, and the progressive cavity pump is on the dosing line. Solids passage is quoted by duty.
Can you private-label a sewage pump or supply it wholesale?
Yes. OEM and private-label work is quoted from a duty sheet, and lots are quoted by SKU. See private label and wholesale.
