What a submersible water pump is
A sealed motor and pump that run under the water
A submersible water pump has a sealed electric motor close-coupled to the pump end, and the whole unit sits below the water surface. Water flows into the intake under its own pressure, so the pump never has to prime or lift by suction. The surrounding water also cools the motor. That makes the form simple to install in a pit, tank, pond or well — and it is why dry-running is the main thing to protect against.
Clear water first; dirty water and sewage have their own pages
This hub covers clean or lightly dirty water: rain and groundwater in a pit, tank contents, pond and fountain water, borehole supply. Muddy site water with stones belongs on the trash pump page; raw sewage with solids and fibers belongs on the submersible sewage pump page and the sewage ejector pump page. Using a clear-water intake screen on sewage will block it.
Route by duty: which submersible page fits your job
Drainage, basement and flood water
Small portable submersibles that empty a flooded basement, a window well or a tank onto a hose are covered on the utility pump page. Fixed pit installs with a float follow the same rules with a longer duty cycle.
Tank transfer and water handling
Moving clean water between tanks, cisterns and process vessels: the closest catalog unit is the submersible drainage pump on the transfer line. For surface and self-priming alternatives see the transfer pump guide.
Pond, fountain and water features
Continuous-duty units that circulate pond water or feed a fountain or waterfall. They run for long hours at low head, so efficiency, a coarse intake screen or pre-filter, and a corrosion-resistant body matter more than peak head. Quoted to the duty sheet.
Borehole and deep-well supply
Slim multistage submersibles that fit 4-inch or 6-inch casings and push water up a drop pipe. Setting depth, drawdown and cable sizing are on the deep well pump page; the wider choice of submersible vs jet vs booster is on the well pump guide.
Muddy site water and dewatering
When the water carries sand, gravel and debris, a clear-water impeller wears quickly. Move to a semi-trash or trash design on the trash pump page.
Raw sewage and wastewater
Toilet waste and fibrous solids need a non-clog, vortex or grinder design. See submersible sewage pumps and the sewage pump guide.
Design points for a clear-water submersible range
Flow/head curve, not a single number
Every submersible is quoted on a curve: flow falls as head rises. Size to the duty point — total head (vertical lift plus hose or pipe friction) at the flow you need — and check that point sits in the efficient middle of the curve, not at shut-off or run-out.
Power, voltage and motor
State voltage, phase and frequency for the target market. Single-phase units suit household and light-trade duty; three-phase suits larger fixed installs. Borehole motors are wired 2-wire or 3-wire with a control box.
Cable and float switch
Cable length and jacket type must suit the immersion depth and market rules. Drainage units are offered with a tethered or vertical float for automatic start and stop; a float also gives basic dry-run protection.
Materials: thermoplastic, stainless or cast iron
Engineered thermoplastic bodies are light and corrosion-free for portable drainage and pond units. Stainless steel suits borehole, tank and mildly aggressive water. Cast iron is robust for fixed pit duty. Confirm shaft seal and elastomers against water quality and temperature.
Thermal and dry-run protection
A thermal protector in the winding stops the motor on overheating and resets when it cools. Dry-run protection — float, level probe or current sensing — stops the pump when the water drops below the intake, which is the most common cause of seal and motor failure.
Intake screen and solids limit
A clear-water intake screen keeps leaves and grit out of the impeller and sets the largest particle the pump will pass. State the solids you expect; if it is more than fine grit, step up to a dirty-water or trash design.
RFQ checklist for a submersible water pump
Send these fields on the inquiry form. The pump spec guide has the general RFQ brief.
Application and water
Drainage, tank, pond/fountain or well; clear or lightly dirty; largest particle; water temperature.
Duty point
Required flow, vertical lift, hose or pipe size and length (or well depth, water level and drawdown).
Power and cable
Voltage, phase, frequency, cable length and plug type for the market.
Control and protection
Float type, automatic or manual, thermal protector, dry-run protection.
Materials
Thermoplastic, stainless or cast iron body; seal and elastomer preferences.
Branding and packaging
Private label, color box or carton, lot size and annual quantity.
Catalog SKU closest to clear-water submersible duty
An existing catalog pump with a studio reference image. Flow, head, cable length and float options are quoted to your duty sheet.
What the catalog covers
The catalog lists one submersible drainage pump, described for pits and construction water with a float option and quoted cable length. It does not list a dedicated pond, fountain or borehole submersible, so those duties are quoted to the duty sheet. See the transfer line.
Two ways to buy
OEM and private label
Building a submersible water pump range under your own brand? Start from a duty sheet. See Custom OEM for options and the private-label hub for housing, label and packaging.
Wholesale supply
Buying in crate lots for distribution or installation? The wholesale hub covers lots and spares. MOQ is quoted by SKU, not as a site-wide number.
Submersible water pump FAQ
Do you sell submersible water pumps to consumers?
No. This is OEM and wholesale supply for brands, distributors and contractors, with no cart and no public price. Send a duty sheet on the inquiry form.
Submersible water pump or sewage pump?
A water pump has a fine intake screen and a clear-water impeller; it is not built for toilet waste or fibers. For raw sewage use a submersible sewage pump or a sewage ejector pump.
Submersible or surface pump for clear water?
A submersible needs no priming and is quiet, but must be lifted out for service. A surface pump is easy to reach but limited by suction lift. Compare options on the transfer pump guide.
Can one submersible do drainage, pond and well duty?
Rarely well. A drainage unit is built for short high-flow runs, a pond pump for long low-head running, and a borehole pump for slim casings and high head. Pick the page by duty: utility, deep well or well pump guide.
How do I protect against dry running?
Use a float switch or level probe that stops the pump before the water drops below the intake, and specify a thermal protector in the motor. On wells, a dry-run or under-load relay in the control box is common.
Does the catalog list a submersible water pump?
It lists one submersible drainage pump on the transfer line. Pond, fountain and borehole submersibles are not listed and are quoted to the duty sheet.
Can you private-label these or supply them wholesale?
Yes. OEM and private-label work is quoted from a duty sheet, and lots are quoted by SKU. See private label and wholesale.
